Awaaz Anjane travels to three continents in this episode, starting with Vishal Khaparde in Tampa, Florida. Vishal’s previous performance is still fresh in our memory and his new song, Bhool Ja, would be hard to forget as well. From US, we hop to Moscow, where Elmar Rajsur, the Azerbaijani singer idolizing Suresh Wadkar, sings Tere Naam. You can listen to the story of Elmar in his own voice and more of his songs in our December episode. This episode introduces the upcoming talent from Mumbai and Kolkata, IndiaJaniva Roy. She has an extremely melodious voice and is comfortable singing popular film songs as well as ghazals. We are planning an episode with Janiva, but thought would let you catch a glimpse of her talents through the lovely Julie song, Yeh Raatein. If you enjoy listening to upcoming talents, Columbus, Ohio would provide you an opportunity on September 22. The India Festival promises to be a day full of fun, food and cultural programs. Hope to meet you there.

The Awaaz Anjane stars for this week are Kalpana Sharma from Delhi, India and Somdatta Pal from New Jersey, USA. Kalpana has been winning accolades for her singing talents since her school days and takes lessons in Indian Classical and Light Classical from the Ghazal maestro Shri Satish Babbar under the Guru-Shishya tradition. Although she feels quite at ease with popular music as well, ghazal remains her first love. In this episode, you get to hear a lovely Himachali number and another soul-stirring rendition, Naina.

Somdatta’s journey in Indian fine arts, on the other hand, started with dance training under Mallika Sarabhai at Ahmedabad and music training from her father.  Somdatta, a banker by profession and now living in New Jersey, effortlessly picks up the guitar and sings a ghazal for us. Intending to explore Tagore songs with new music and sound, she is also working on a fusion album. She shares the wonderful song Talaash from this album in progress. And like always, we keep you updated with new releases, local events and music trivia.
